Some friends joined us today to help pull the rudder out. A lovely day out for them, lifting heavy bits of things in the heat and stomping around in the tide; a water in boots, mud on face kind of day. We need to pull the rudder out so we can turn the boat around, pull the boat ‘stern too’ up the beach (a muddy, rocky oyster bank) and paint the other side of the hull. The prop and prop shaft need to come out too for a service and a new much grander prop will be installed, eventually. There is a saying among some fix it, build it types of the animal species named ‘Brute force and ignorance’. This saying was utilised today and with a whacking of a hammer and a jiggling of the rudder it popped out-thump.
Rudder out- Refit
